These baskets are woven by the women
of the Kinigi Weavers Association, in a small village near Volcanoes National
Park. Each basket is hand-crafted from sisal and consists of literally hundreds
of stitches. The patterns of these baskets tell ancient stories and now stand as symbols of
peace and reconciliation in a country rebuilding itself after the genocide.

Rare Earth Basket |
The natural colors and contours of the Rwandan landscape are the inspiration for this exquisite basket woven of naturally dyed sisal. Hand made by the Kinigi Ladies Weaving Association, the basket is approximately 16” wide and 5-6” deep.

Thousand Hills Basket |
Rwanda is well known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills”. The weavers living near Volcanoes Parc designed this intricate pattern as a tribute to the many villages perched high upon the lush hills. This extra large basket of approximately 16” is made of raffia tightly woven over bundled sweet grass, photo shown is in ochre/natural color scheme.
